Villepinte is a small commune located in the North Eastern edge of Paris. This area is
approximately 18 km from the centre of Paris and is home to the important Villepinte Expo Centre
which hosts a number of expositions and conventions.
Villepinte is located within the Seine Saint Dennis administrative department which is one of
the smallest departments in France. The commune takes its name from Villa Picta, a historic villa
with rich antique décor that was built in this area. Historical highlights include the Abbey of St.
Dennis which is a Gothic cathedral dating back to the fourth century.
During the 17th century a family of wealthy Parisians known as Bignon built a mansion in the
Louis XII style, this later came to be known as the Red Castle. Surrounded by 11 hectare estate,
the house also has a historic chapel.
A number of beautiful parks can be found around Villepinte such as the Rose Garden at the
corner of Charles de Gaulle Avenue and Charlemagne. Woodland areas such as Sausset, Blizzard and
Tussion serve as excellent places for a picnic during the warmer summer months.
Villepinte despite its small size has today become a modern neighbourhood yet has been able
to preserve its historical value, like many areas in Paris, France. A hotel such as the Millennium
Hotel Paris Charles De Gaulle and other Paris hotels near Villepinte offer tourists an excellent
opportunity to catch a glimpse of a regular French community.
