The Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris will be putting on a retrospective of work by Lucio Fontana until August 24th 2014.
Displaying work from his life (1899-1968), the exhibition looks at the vast variety of over two hundred sculptures, paintings, installations and ceramics which have made him such a revolutionary artist.
France hasn’t shown his work since 1987, so this is a great opportunity to discover his changing styles which have influenced many genres.
Fontana is the son of an Italian sculptor and was born in Rosario, Argentina. He later moved to Milan in Italy to pursue art. He began working on abstract sculptures in the 1930s, using materials such as ceramic, mosaic and terracotta.
Well known for his Spatial Concepts (1949), a series of colourful canvases, he is often featured in reference textbooks and heavily influenced 1960s artworks.
