Guests staying at hotels in Hannover, such as the Copthorne Hotel Hannover, will find the Sprengel Museum situated conveniently close by.
Opened in 1979, the Sprengel Museum offers a diverse programme of temporary exhibitions. The museum was built to house the art collection of Bernhard Sprengel, who favoured German Expressionism and French Modern Art.
During the last 20 years, the collection has expanded to include works of contemporary art. A Department of Photography and Media came into being in 1994. The museum also offers a series of lectures and a comprehensive educational programme. Since 1993, it has housed the Kurt Schwitters Archive.
