The Stuttgart Beer Festival runs from September 26th to October 12th and is considered the second biggest beer festival in the world after the Oktoberfest in Munich.

Around 4.2 million people visited in the festival in 2006, according to its organisers.

There is plenty to keep any youngsters entertained, with Ferris wheels and other amusement rides, while the adults hit the various beer tents.

A firework display marks German reunification on October 3rd, which gives visitors an even bigger cause to celebrate, as if any were needed.

Various other exhibitions are also on show too, like the agriculture one.

The festival has its origins in an annual agricultural trade fair, with the first official festival taking place in 1818, when 30,000 participants attended.

In its first year it only lasted one day, but over time has grown longer.

The festival is open from 11:00 and closes at 23:00 or 23:30 depending on the day.
