Ice hockey fans may want to check into a Hannover hotel later this month for a major match of the season.

On Sunday September 6th the Hannover Scorpions will take on the Frankfurt Lions at the TUI Arena as a result of the city's ice hockey team making it into the German top division.

Hannover's official tourist guide says the Hannover Scorpions ice hockey team "were not far short" of being victorious in the championship for the first time last season.

Having finished runners-up in the national league, they face their first test of the new season in a home game against Frankfurt Lions.

The game will begin at 14:30 local time and attendees will be able to experience the atmosphere at a German ice hockey match.

Meanwhile, handball fans will be able to see TSV Hannover-Burgdorf and HBW Balingen/Weilstetten battle it out on the same day.
