Hannover International Airport
Location & Attractions|Hannover International AirportOpened in 1952 to replace the airfield located on the outskirts of Hannover, the Hannover Airport was popularised due to the compact design of the two terminals constructed in 1973. In order to accommodate more passengers, Terminal C was opened in 1998, providing 8 more gates and the ability to house up to 33 aircraft concurrently. A rebuilt hangar, Terminal D is exclusive to the British Troops of the Royal Air Force who serve within Germany. From 1957 to 1990, the Hannover International Airport was the venue for the largest air show in Germany, Internationale Luft- und Raumfahrtausstellung. To accommodate the needs of the audience, the air show has been held in Berlin ever since 1992. Apart from the fair share of air shows, the airport has been the setting for numerous musical performances including a series of annual techno parties named "Explosion" as well as a secret Stacie Orrico concert. During the early years since its inception, airport traffic came through the Frankfurt International Airport. However, nowadays destinations are served directly, with flights being made to major cities, a majority of European capitals and key holiday destinations. Facilities available at the Hannover International Airport include an array of duty-free shops, shopping outlets, tour operators, business centres, eateries and much more. Shopping at the airport includes a series of speciality shops offering the likes of a perfumery, travel shops, souvenirs and even a Last Minute counter. Travellers have the ease of purchasing items of their desire while at the airport itself. The eateries within the airport which range from cafes and bars to restaurants offer sumptuous delicacies to satiate the gastronomical needs of travellers and visitors alike. Restaurant Movenpick offers a delicious Mediterranean buffet dinner to those seeking fine dining within the Hannover International Airport. The VIP services offered cover many services provided to visitors to make their stay within the airport more comfortable. The VIP packages ranging from VIP Class, VIP Exclusive and VIP Premium include benefits such as check in and lounge, valet parking as well as a limousine service. These services are offered to make the travellers' journey a more comfortable one. There are a number of ways to arrive at the airport. The S-Bahn provides a link between Hamelin and the airport through the Hannover Central Station, whereby the train leaves every 30 minutes for a 17 minute journey. Replacing the airport's shuttle bus service which frequented every 20 minutes, the train proved to be a faster mode of transport. Copthorne Hotel Hannover is a lavish hotel near Hannover International Airport, which is located only 20 minutes away. This modern hotel offers many amenities and quality services and is the ideal choice of accommodation for business and leisure travellers. |
