|Snowboarding championship in Wanaka
With five years already under its belt, the New Zealand Open kickstarts Burton's 2009 Global Open Series.
This year's event will comprise of Half Pipe, Quarter Pipe and Slopestyle disciplines
Here the world's top professional riders including X Games champions, Olympic gold medallists and world champions all compete for the largest title payout in snowboarding.
New Zealand is the first port of call on the international circuit, and the championship will continue in Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan and USA.
The male and female cumulative-points champions will each collect US$100,000 after completing the event.
Snow Park is situated 35km from Wanaka and 55km from Queenstown. The closest major cities are Christchurch and Dunedin. By car Christchurch is four-and-a half hours and Dunedin three-and-a-half hours away.
There are daily domestic flights that fly into both Queenstown and Wanaka. It is best to book these in conjunction with your international ticket if traveling from overseas.
