Mohamed Ali Alabbar, chairman of Emaar Properties, the developer of the mall, said: "The Dubai Mall will address the world-class shopping needs of a population of over two billion people in the catchment markets of the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe."

The Dubai Mall includes a Gold Souk, an Olympic-sized ice rink and a fashion atrium. It also has 220 gold and jewellery shops, 160 food and beverage outlets, as well as two department stores, Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale's.
