|Tourism remains healthy in Abu Dhabi
According to research from professional services firm Deloitte, Abu Dhabi hotels were among the leading performers in the world's tourist sector during 2008.
As the global credit crunch hit, many countries saw their tourist trade suffer, but Abu Dhabi and Dubai were among the big success stories of the year, with the former enjoying an increase in revenue per available room of 46 per cent.
An Abu Dhabi hotel saw average revenue per available room reach $231 (£167) per night, the report found, while occupancy rates hit 81 per cent.
Earlier this week it was revealed that cricket teams from the Indian subcontinent could be based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as part of a revised security procedure.
The move could help to increase tourism to the area even further, as cricket fans look to follow their idols across the globe.
