Plans to construct a kilometre-high tower in Dubai have been unveiled by development company Nakheel, who said that the tower would take ten years to complete and would be the tallest in the world.

The company did not comment on the exact height of the proposed building or the cost but said that it would have 200 floors.

Speaking at a press conference, Nakheel chief executive, Christopher O'Donnell, said: "From our perspective, we are building a tower that's going to be over a kilometer in height. This is a complete iconic development. It may be the tallest."

Approximately 30,000 workers will be involved in the construction that will also boast of more than 10,000 parking spaces.

The new tower will be taller than even the Burj Dubai which will be ready at 818 meters next year.

When the Burj is ready, visitors may wish to book a Dubai hotel to take a look at the huge structure.
