|Metro network plans announced for Abu Dhabi
A range of international organisations have been invited to submit proposals as to the best way of initiating the project which is to extend for over 80 miles through Abu Dhabi.
The metro plans will be joined by additional spending on regional infrastructure, including a Light Rail Transit system and further roadways.
According to the National, Abdelgader Elshabani, a senior transportation planning specialist with Abu Dhabi's department of transport, recently told a conference: "From the start we began looking at what are the possible rail system routes that we need to reserve right away."
He added this needed to be done before a final proposal had been accepted.
Developing the transport links will facilitate public travel in the city and could make matters easier for people staying in Abu Dhabi hotels.
