Cricket teams from the Indian subcontinent are to be based in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as a result of revised security plans, reports the Guardian.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is based in Dubai and with teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India now to move to the Middle East, the city could have an opportunity to rejuvenate its sporting image.

In terms of facilities, Dubai has recently invested £1 billion in a new Sports City complex, while the warm climate allows the game to be played for most of the year.

An unnamed colleague of ICC president David Morgan told the paper: "There will be three state-of-the-art cricket grounds at Sports City in Dubai, where Australian, Pakistani and English soil has already been imported for use."

Cricket fans staying in a Dubai hotel could have an opportunity to see some terrific games in the near-future.

The level of sporting investment also supports a move to the Middle East. Prize money in the region has risen dramatically in recent years and Sports City has a £2.86 billion fund.

The ICC celebrates its centenary this year, having first been established back in 1909, according to the organisation's website.
