|Dubai to Newcastle flight reaches landmark
The flight route which has been transporting tourists to their Dubai hotel celebrating carrying its 250,000th passenger, highlighting the popularity of the United Arab Emirates with Brits.
Since being launched in September 2007, the daily service has been a hit for those travelling to Dubai and using the route as a connection for other destinations such as Beijing, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
Lauri Berryman, Emirates manager for UK north, said: "A quarter of a million passengers in less than two years is a significant achievement.
"We are delighted and grateful for the support we have received from passengers and cargo shippers from across the region."
Earlier this month it was reported that Dubai's tourist industry is robust despite the global credit crunch.
Khalid bin Sulayem, director-general at the city's department of tourism and commerce marketing, told delegates at a meeting of the Economic Council that visitor numbers to Dubai in 2008 increased, reports the Khaleej Times.
