|Dubai still 'attracting attention from travellers'
According to aviation data business OAG, flights to Middle East destinations, including Dubai, are up by 12 per cent, indicating that the area is weathering the current economic downturn.
David Beckerman, vice-president of market intelligence at OAG, said: "The Middle East is attracting a lot of interest as a business hub as well as a holiday destination.
"Moreover, the airlines in the Gulf have had continuous deliveries of new large aircraft which, as they are deployed, expand the overall capacity in those regions, regardless of demand."
The OAG reports that in contrast to expanding areas like Dubai, globally the aviation industry scheduled six per cent less flights in April 2009 compared with the same month in 2008.
It was revealed earlier this month that in 2009 an additional 9,000 Dubai hotel rooms will be created, indicating the popularity of this destination with holidaymakers and business people, reports Business 27|7.
