Dubai's tourism officials have taken a step forward to ensure they provide good customer service to holidaymakers this summer.

The United Arab Emirates city has received ISO certification for its complaints handling system, which will reassure those checked into a Dubai hotel that their feedback is properly dealt with.

Khalid A bin Sulayem, of Dubai's official tourist board, has worked with a business development team to improve the service, which has now received the prestigious accreditation.

It was reported earlier this month that Dubai's tourist industry is faring well during the global credit crunch.

According to the city's tourist authority, Dubai maintained an average hotel occupancy rate of 81 per cent during the first four months of 2009, reports the Khaleej Times.

The newspaper reports that Khalid bin Sulayem, director-general at the city's department of tourism and commerce marketing, said: "One evidence is the number of visitors to Dubai, which increased from 6.9 million in 2007 to 7.5 million in 2008."
