|Beach volleyball headed to Dubai
The Swatch FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour will take place at the Jumeirah Beach Park between October 5th and 11th.
Some 250 of the best beach volleyball players in the world will head to the city to sample the delights of Dubai's hotels for the duration of the Dubai Open.
The move has been welcomed by officials in Dubai who hope the event will spark an interest in beach volleyball.
Mohammad Abdul Karim Julfar, president of the UAE Volleyball Association, told the Gulf News that Dubai is the perfect destination for the sport.
"The FIVB Beach Volleyball Dubai Open will offer the public a great opportunity to see this hugely popular sport for the very first time here in the UAE," he said.
"Dubai enjoys wonderful weather and has glorious beaches and I think that both fans and players will really enjoy coming to this event."
