Abu Dhabi has succeeded in its bid to host the opening events of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship for the next three years.

The first race of this year takes place on April 17th and 18th and people staying in an Abu Dhabi hotel may get the opportunity to see some of the world's best stunt pilots competing for points on the event's spectacular racing course.

In addition, reigning world champion Hannes Arch will bear the city's logo on his aircraft's tail when he begins the defence of his title.

Ahmed Hussain, deputy director general of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, said: "Our commitment to the Red Bull Air Race World Championship now goes significantly beyond the Abu Dhabi Red Bull Air Race."

More than 100 million people around the world are expected to watch the races on television and the US city of San Diego will host the event after Abu Dhabi.

In related entertainment news, Abu Dhabi officials have insisted that the Yas Marina Circuit will be completely ready to host the last race of this year's Formula One championship in November.
