The Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) is to take place in Abu Dhabi for nine days from October 10th to October 19th.

The festival will hold the premieres of films from Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Egypt and Syria over the week, with entrees in the competition lauded as being among the most important to be have been made recently in the region.

The event is growing substantially in popularity, and this year will screen a number of highly-anticipated new releases.

Samir Farid, an Egyptian journalist and Arabic programmer for the festival, said: "We are extremely impressed with this year's selection of films from the Arab world and are honoured to have a number of world and regional premiers screening during our festival."

The festival will be acknowledging global concerns this year by screening a series of films looking at environmental issues, in addition to several documentaries marking 60 years since Palestine was divided.

The Black Pearl Awards will honour one filmmaker with a prize of over $1 million.
