A city-wide roll-out of next-generation fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband infrastructure is nearing completion in Abu Dhabi.

Telegeography reports that the roll-out, dubbed eLite and organised by telecoms firm Etisalat, will deliver a range of high-speed internet services to homes and businesses throughout the Middle Eastern city by the third quarter of this year.

Web users will be able to access both broadcast television and on-demand services, while also engaging in video-conferencing and online gaming from multiple computers using the same connection.

Etisalat says it has already connected 300,000 homes to the network and plans to join an additional 1.4 million offices and homes over the course of the next two years as the whole of the United Arab Emirates receives the technology.

Visitors staying in Abu Dhabi hotels may soon be able to access the higher speeds facilitated by the FTTH network.

In related Abu Dhabi news, officials in the city have said that the new Yas Marina Circuit will be ready for the Formula One race in November.
