One of the most distinguished ensembles in the world is set to open the new International Orchestra season at the Reading Hexagon.

From October 13th, guests staying in Reading hotels will be given the chance to see some of the world's finest musicians in action, starting with a special concert by the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra.

The opening night concert will see the world-famous Russian orchestra play a number of the best-known works by Tchaikovsky.

The programme will start with the Russian composer's suite from Sleeping Beauty and close with his first symphony, while in between British cellist Guy Johnston will join the orchestra on stage for Variations on a Rococo Theme.

In addition to the concert itself, Reading hotel guests will also be able to attend a pre-concert talk at the Hexagon Theatre, with conductor Vladimir Altschuler set to explain the history of the pieces and the orchestra itself.

Music lovers heading to Reading over the summer will also get the chance to see the Soweto Gospel Choir when they perform at the Hexagon on September 20th.
