Fans of all things Chinese will not want to miss out on the annual new year celebrations taking place on February 1st.

The Chinese New Year takes place later than the European new year and sees a huge parade take place across London.

Taking in the Strand, Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue, as well as Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square, the event is not to be missed for those visiting the capital.

There is also the opportunity to see both western and Chinese opera in Trafalgar Square, as well as seeing all of Chinatown in the West End of the city near Soho come alight.

2009 is the year of the Ox, meaning that children born in it will not be afraid of hard work and are dependable, calm and modest.

It is a great opportunity to sample Chinese food, watch some dragon dancers and generally soak up the atmosphere that such a big event encapsulates.
