|Season to kick off with Community Shield
The Community Shield is the traditional curtain-raiser for the domestic season and involves the reigning Premier League and FA Cup champions.
Manchester United and Portsmouth will therefore be the two sides competing for the Community Shield this year, in a match scheduled to take place on August 10th.
The Red Devils are the current holders of the Community Shield, after beating their rivals Chelsea 3-0 on penalties last year following a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Portsmouth will be high on confidence, however, having shown that they have what it takes to win a major trophy by lifting the FA Cup in May, and will see this match as an excellent opportunity to add some silverware to their trophy cabinet.
The Community Shield, which was formerly known as the Charity Shield, was first played in 1908 and was changed to its current format of a clash between the FA Cup and league winners in 1974.
