London's Royal Academy of Arts will launch an exhibition this month offering an insight into the pre-Raphaelite movement.

The major retrospective display will concentrate on the work of John William Waterhouse, a highly influential artist best known for his paintings of female characters from mythology and literature.

London hotel visitors will be able to see the exhibition at the Royal Academy from June 27th until September 13th.

More than 40 paintings will feature in the survey of Waterhouse's career, including pieces that have been borrowed from public and private collections.

The most famous works due to appear in the exhibition include The Lady of Shalott, Hylas and the Nymphs, Circe Invidiosa: Circe Poisoning the Sea and A Mermaid.

Alongside the paintings, there will be studies in chalk and pencil, photographs, sketchbooks and books written by Tennyson and Shelley in which Waterhouse made drawings.

Running at the Royal Academy until August 16th this year is the 2009 Summer Exhibition, the largest open-submission contemporary art display in the world.
