Anybody who happens to be staying in a Reading hotel on July 26th has been invited to see Meltdown at the Oracle Riverside.

Few details are provided about this intriguing piece of outdoor entertainment, other than the description that it is a free event of "music, theatre and intrigue".

Meltdown was commissioned by the Berkshire Venues Consortium and, according to its organisers, will feature some "very strange creatures".

People who are unable to make it to the Reading showing of the event may be able to catch it at a number of other venues in the south-east, including Bracknell town centre on July 13th and Maidenhead High Street on July 19th.

Another interesting event taking place in the area this month is the Reading Abbey Ruins Open Air Festival, which will run from July 29th to 31st.

The festival will include a Scottish 'ceilidh' featuring pipe music and dancing and a performance by the Pendulum Jazz Orchestra, which will perform pieces in various styles and moods.
