|Oscar Wilde work comes to London theatre
A theatrical production of Wilde's only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, will open at the Leicester Square Theatre on January 9th and run until February 1st.
Entitled simply Dorian Gray, the play is being presented by the Ruby in the Dust company in an innovative new format full of "glamour, music, decadence and drama".
The story is set in Victorian London but makes a departure from the respectable gentlemen's clubs and opera houses to explore the city's murky opium dens and seedy burlesque bars.
Wilde's original novel tells of a young man named Dorian Gray, who wishes that his image in a painting would age rather than himself.
His wish is fulfilled, but when Dorian celebrates his eternal youth by engaging in a number of debauched acts, his spiritual degradation manifests itself physically in the painting.
