Art historian Dr Jonathan Black will give the lecture at 18:30 on January 13th, with pre-booking advised for people planning to attend.

Dr Black will explore a variety of themes and topics during his exploration of the Underground's commissioning of leading modernists in the field of graphic art.

Audience members will hear about the significance of everything from technology and military might to popular culture and film in modern graphic design.

The talk will touch on work by a number of talented figures from the world of modern art, including Man Ray, McKnight Kauffer, Tom Eckersley, Austin Cooper and Hans Schleger.

Dr Black's lecture will relate to The Art of the Poster, an exhibition looking at poster design for London's public transport network, which will be open until March 31st.
