|London's Wellcome Collection to host new anatomy exhibition
The 'Exquisite Bodies' exhibition, which opens on July 30th and runs until October 18th, aims at educating and entertaining visitors to the popular London museum in equal measure.
Alongside 17th and 18th century anatomical models used by the medical profession, the collection will also showcase a series of pieces from the days when guests in London hotels would join locals in flocking to see models of physical deformity or grotesque diseases.
Explaining the significance of the exhibits, curator Kate Forde told the Guardian: "They were certainly about educating people, but they were also hugely popular entertainment, at a time before x-rays when the inner workings of their own bodies were a profound mystery to most people."
The exhibits have been sourced from a number of private collections across Europe, with many being put on display for guests staying in London hotels for the first time.
Located by the main University of College, London building, the Wellcome Collection has long been praised for its ability to bring together the arts and the sciences through its special exhibitions.
