|London named Europe's top destination
The final World Travel Awards ceremony of the year was held on the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean on December 2nd and represented the culmination of a voting process involving some 167,000 industry professionals.
Graham Cooke, president and founder of the World Travel Awards, said "nothing can compare" to winning one of the honours.
He added: "It's quite simply the highest accolade any location or travel company can ever hope to achieve and says more about them than any brochure can communicate, any picture can mirror, any personal testimonial can express."
People planning a trip to the English capital may also be interested in the results of another recent event, the Visit London Awards, which recognised the best experiences and attractions on offer in the city.
In the people's choice section of the awards, Oxford Street was voted the best shopping destination and Jersey Boys was named the best West End show.
The Science Museum, the Wellcome Collection and the London Transport Museum picked up the gold, silver and bronze accolades respectively in the 'visitor attraction of the year' awards category.
