Music lovers staying in London hotels over the remainder of August have been invited to 'play' one of the capital's most famous concert venues.

Having already proven a hit in Stockholm and New York City, the 'Playing the Building' project will be at London's Roundhouse Theatre until August 31st.

Designed and curated by Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, the programme sees members of the public encouraged to play an old-fashioned pipe organ that has been hooked up to the theatre's pipes and metal beams.

By pressing on the keyboard, the building itself whistles or clangs, with the singer revealing that this is music-making at its simplest, with "no speakers, no electronics or samples".

He told the BBC: "You can't play Bach. It kind of levels the playing field as far as performing goes.

"We are all equally amateur at it."

Originally, the Roundhouse Theatre served as an engine shed, only reopening as an arts venue in 1964, when London hotel guests were treated to works by the acclaimed playwright Arnold Wesker.
