|London hotel guests get to see Chamberlain's wartime diaries
Just a short walk or taxi ride from most top London hotels, the military museum is to host its 'Outbreak 1939' exhibition between now and September 5th.
Among the highlights of the new exhibition is the pocket diary of Neville Chamberlain, British prime minister at the outbreak of the war.
Other items include numerous letters and memos, both from government officials and diplomats and ordinary men and women arranging to have children evacuated or to organise a wedding in double-quick time.
Terry Chapman, the senior historian at the museum, explained: "Everybody is familiar with 1940 and our finest hour, Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, the Blitz.
"But many people are unfamiliar with the first few months of the war and the unwarranted optimism that this war could be won on the cheap."
As well as the special exhibition, the museum, which is particularly popular with families staying in London hotels, also houses a number of original planes and tanks.
