Some of the capital's top chefs gathered in Covent Garden this week to launch the one-month countdown to the London Restaurant Festival.

The event, which is taking place for the first time this year, will run from October 8th to 13th.

Visit London said that the culinary celebration is hoping to become "the Edinburgh Festival of the food world" and could boost restaurant sales by up to 20 per cent.

Top chefs including Richard Corrigan, Tim Hughes, Angela Hartnett and Fergus Henderson attended the countdown event this week and took part in a photo call and a press conference.

Sally Chatterjee, interim chief executive of Visit London, said: "The London Restaurant Festival has been created to drive as many people as possible back into hundreds of participating restaurants.

"Our aim is to see a 20 per cent increase in sales during the week of the event, and with fabulous food available at fabulous prices, we believe this is possible."

London hotel guests can visit the festival's 'pop-up' space in Covent Garden to find information about events taking place and order tickets.
