|Gareth Gates to play Joseph
Mead will leave the show on January 10th and Gates will make his West End stage debut in the popular production on February 9th.
After finding fame in the television talent show Pop Idol, Gates has gone on to appear in a number of other shows and will soon appear in Cinderella at the Wimbledon Theatre opposite Joanna Page and Alistair McGowan.
Commenting on his new role, the singer said that it was a "dream" of his to play Joseph.
He added: "I am really honoured to be appearing at the Adelphi, stepping into that famous coat and really can't wait to get stuck in."
The latest version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, has been running at the Adelphi Theatre since July 2007.
London hotel visitors can see evening performances of the show every day, with matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
