Former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm will make her theatrical debut in the long-running London show Blood Brothers this year.

The singer, who is also known as Mel C or Sporty Spice, will play the character of Mrs Johnstone in the musical from October 26th.

She will take over the role from Niki Evans, a former X-Factor contestant.

Chisholm will be the latest in a long line of well-known singers to have played Mrs Johnstone, with Barbara Dickson, Kiki Dee, Siobhan McCarthy and Linda, Bernie, Denise and Maureen Nolan all having portrayed the character in the past.

Blood Brothers was written by Willy Russell and has been a permanent fixture on the West End theatre scene since 1988.

It tells the story of twin brothers born in Liverpool who are separated at birth and reunited later in life after being raised in drastically different circumstances.

People planning London hotel breaks in the future can book tickets to see Blood Brothers at the Phoenix Theatre up to November 28th.
