London hotel visitors with a taste for an extravagant show may be interested in heading to the Coliseum some time in June or July to see Candide.

The English National Opera (ENO) production of this Leonard Bernstein masterpiece will open on June 23rd and have 15 showings before closing on July 12th.

This show, which is directed by Robert Carsen, has already been a smash hit at Milan's La Scala and Paris' Theatre du Chatelet.

It boasts a company and orchestra of more than 100, including Toby Spence, Anna Christy and Marnie Breckenridge in the lead roles, as well as a host of stunning sets and beautiful costumes.

Candide, which is based on an original story by Voltaire, follows the story of a young man whose idealistic beliefs are challenged when he leaves his home town to travel across the America of the 1950s.

This version of the show has been popular with critics, with the Sunday Times calling it "dazzling" and France's Le Figaro describing it as "a smashing success".
