|Commemorative display at the National Portrait Gallery
Launched in July to mark the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day, which signalled the end of the First World War on November 11th 1918, the exhibition will be open until January 11th 2009.
Many soldiers and civilians wrote and published poems during the period of the war from 1914 to 1918, many of whom died in that time.
Their work has since accrued a great deal of significance as it provides a voice for the people who fought in the trenches during the war and lived through its repercussions at home.
All of the people featured in the National Portrait Gallery exhibition had experiences of the war, but some, such as Wilfred Owen and Isaac Rosenberg, were on the front line and wrote about the appalling things they witnessed.
London hotel visitors interested in seeing more First World War poets can do so by using the portrait explorer in the National Portrait Gallery's IT zone.
