|Britons 'putting money away for holidays'
Halifax polled 1,001 people and found that less than a third (27 per cent) are resorting to credit cards to pay for a break, with just over half (54 per cent) funding their trips through monthly income.
Some 49 per cent of the respondents to the survey said they will be taking London hotel breaks and other holidays at home this year, with Anglia residents (80 per cent) the most likely to stay in the UK.
Flavia Palacios Umama, head of savings products for Halifax, said: "It is great to see that so many people are saving towards their annual holiday, which should give them a real sense of achievement on a well deserved vacation.
"This leaves them free to enjoy the sunshine and not worry about a financial holiday hangover when they get home."
Future holiday plans appear to be important to many British people, with half (51 per cent) of the people surveyed saying they are already planning to save for next year's getaway.
