The British Museum is currently offering its visitors the opportunity to explore far-off lands in an exhibition looking at cultural diversity in the eastern Himalayas.

Entitled Between Tibet and Assam, the display focuses on two tribes from the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh – the Apatani and the Monpa.

The Apatani live in the hills in the centre of the state and have animist beliefs, while the Monpa live at high altitude on the Bhutan-Tibet-India border and are Buddhists.

A range of items are included in the exhibition to depict the differences between these two communities, including archival and contemporary photographs, paintings by members of the Monpa tribe and recordings of an Apatani ritual text.

The showcase, which London hotel visitors will be able to see until April next year, also features research by a team from the School of Oriental and African Studies and the British Museum.

People with an interest in foreign cultures may also be interested in the British Museum's Babylon exhibition, which explores the various myths of this culture and how closely they are linked to reality.
