London hotel guests can pay a visit to the British Museum this year to see a unique piece of art from eastern India.

The contemporary painting, which was rendered on silk by Indian artist Dinabandhu Mahapatra, will be on display until October 4th.

It features a number of trees that were copied from manuscripts in the Orissa State Library.

As well as highlighting the importance of forest imagery in Indian culture, the trees represent the story of the relationship between the woman Radha and the Hindu deity Krishna, which is told in the 12th century poem Gitagovinda.

The British Museum owns a number of Indian paintings dating from the 12th century and acquired the new piece to ensure that the country's culture is well represented in its collection.

Also on show at the museum this year is Garden and Cosmos, a showcase of paintings from the royal collection of the Mehrangarh Museum Trust in Jodhpur, which will be open until October 11th.
