|Solo travellers 'heading to Singapore and Asia'
Research by Mintel revealed the tastes of those travelling alone and found that one in eight long-haul breaks are now taken by holidaymakers going abroad without a partner or friend.
Tom Rees, senior travel and tourism analyst at Mintel, said: "There's been this move towards more independent travel, more experimental travel and more desire for authenticity in what they are doing."
He added that travellers heading to destinations like Singapore want to interact with their environment, try new things and do more than "just go for a beach holiday".
Earlier this year, Singapore was named the best sightseeing city in the Asia-Pacific region at the annual Seoul Tourism Awards.
The Singapore Tourism Board was also awarded for its web presence, which has helped increase holiday traffic in the nation.
