|THEATRE MUSEUM AWARDS AT THE HUDSON THEATRE ON OCTOBER 16, 2006
The Theatre Museum's 2006 Awards for Excellence were held at the historic Hudson Theatre (at
the Millennium Broadway Hotel) on October 16, 2006. City and state officials, business people,
students, Broadway and off-Broadway theatre professionals, academics and cultural organization
executives came to honor the four honorees for theatre history preservation and theatre arts
education as well as to support the Theatre Museum.
The honorees were: Fred Papert, president and founder of the 42nd Street Development
Corporation, for his role in restoring 42nd Street theatres; Manhattan Theatre Club, Artistic
Director Lynne Meadow and Executive Producer Barry Grove, for restoring The Biltmore Theater;
Lundeana M. Thomas, Ph.D., for developing the African American Theatre Program at the University of
Louisville; and Roger Danforth, Artistic Director of the Drama League Directors Project for a
unique program that nurtures new directors.
The event also featured performances from the cast of The Wedding Singer, Her Song, The Two
and Only, 42nd Street and Hair.
The Theatre Museum, founded in 2003, is New York State’s first and only chartered, non-profit
museum dedicated to the history of theatre. It is a museum-at-large presenting exhibitions in
collaboration with other cultural institutions. The museum’s programs have included community
outreach, teaching children how to write, direct and stage live theatre. Its primary mission is to
preserve, protect and perpetuate the legacy of theatre through innovative programming.
