The Steinhuder Meer is a lake in Lower Saxony, located 30 kilometres north west of Hannover. It is named after the nearby village of Steinhude, and covers an area of approximately 30 square kilometres, making it the largest lake in North West Germany. The lake is shallow, with an average depth of only 1.35 metres and a maximum depth of less than 3 metres. It lies within a region known as the Hanoverian Moor Geest.
