Website: www.kestner-museum.de/
This museum is named after August Kestner (1777-1853), who collected Egyptian and Graeco-Roman craftwork, as well as other art objects. His nephew Hermann Kestner inherited the collection, with the proviso that it was presented to his native city of Hannover.
The bequest was supplemented in 1887 by the collection of the printing company owner Friedrich Culemann, which consisted largely of medieval arts and crafts. Both collections formed the foundation of the Kestner Museum, when it was opened to the public in 1889.
