News|Caterpillar to expand research site in WuxiThe company's executives have announced they have signed an agreement with local government officials to expand its multi-functional research and development (R&D) centre in Wuxi. Currently, 500 people are employed at the facility as engineers and support staff, developing a range of products tailored to suit the needs of the needs of the expanding Chinese consumer base. The site is strategically based close to a number of other development centres and manufacturing plants that are run by Caterpillar, including its manufacturing campus and engine development centre. "The Wuxi R&D centre is enabling Caterpillar's product development success in China and other growth markets," said Caterpillar vice-president and chief technology officer Tana Utley.
