Xihui Park in the environs of Wuxi is a site often frequented by both visitors and locals. It
offers scenic vistas, cultural relics and ample opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation. A
multitude of historical venues, tranquil old temples and natural charms never fail to enthrall the
visitor.
Historical treasures within the Xihui Park include the Jichang Yuan Garden of the Ming
dynasty, the ‘Fountain under Heaven’ of the Tang dynasty, the Chunshengjun Drinking Spot of the
Spring & Autumn Period, Foolish Old Man Valley and the Huanggong Ravine, all of which offer as
much mystical fascination as their names suggest.
The park is located in the area which borders the Huishan and Xishan Mountains, and contains
a beautiful lake which separates them. Xihui Park features rolling hills, lovely pavilions,
appealing floral blooms and a variety of birdlife, making it a delightful place for a leisurely
sojourn. The Longguang Pagoda, which stands atop Xishan Mountain, is renowned as the symbol of Wuxi
city. The historical and cultural significance of the park has led it to being called the ‘outdoor
museum of Wuxi’.
The majestic Ming dynasty Longguang Pagoda, which stands over 30 m tall, is composed of wood
and brick. From the summit of the seven storey pagoda, the visitor can experience a breathtaking
view of the surrounding area.
Underneath the pagoda, the visitor will find the Longguang cave, used as a former air raid
shelter spanning over 300m; the cave now displays golden craftwork, landscape images and jade
ornaments.
When exploring the scenic delights of the Xihui Park, staying at a Chang Jiang Road hotel such
as the Millennium Wuxi is an ideal choice of sight-seeing base.
