The Suzhou Taihu Lake Plum Blossom Festival has established a reputation as one of the most
attractive Wuxi festivals. The area of Suzhou has long been synonymous with plums and the appealing
plum blossoms, with a reputation stretching back to China’s imperial past. The region’s culture is
in fact inseparable from this tasty fruit and its flowers; many domestic and overseas visitors
arrive at Suzhou to experience the ‘plum culture’ particularly during the well known festival.
The Suzhou Taihu Lake Plum Blossom Festival features many extensive scale folk and cultural
activities which aim to acquaint visitors with the symbolic meaning and significance of the nearby
lake, mountain, flowers and the snow. However all the features and presentations have the plum as
their theme.
Festival celebrations are focused on Linwudong Square by the shores of Taihu Lake. Visitors
will enjoy the leisurely yet enthusiastic ambience as the local cultural displays are presented
with the backdrop of fragrant flowers, the lake waters and the surrounding hills.
The city of Wuxi is situated on the most picturesque sections along Taihu Lake and boasts a
wealth of delightful natural scenery. Not to be missed are the Grand Buddha at Lingshan, one of the
largest such statues in the country and the Garden of Ecstasy, one of the most prominent gardens in
southeast China.
In addition to the well established tourist attractions there is also the option of appealing
