The Shanjuan Cave is one of the premier attractions in the region of Wuxi. A luxury hotel in
Wuxi such as the Millennium Wuxi provides travelers an ideal vantage point from which to explore
the mysteries of this cave.
The luxuriantly wooded area which surrounds the area of the Shanjuan Cave welcomes the
visitor to a mystical environment. The landscape of the cave surpasses the creations of man, and
its fantastic aspects have gained it such titles as ‘Fairyland in the Realm of Desire’ and ‘Relics
Through The Ages’.
The Shanjuan Cave has a legacy stretching back to into the mists of history. It is said that,
over 4,000 years ago, Shanjuan, a poet of renown, was offered the throne of the Shun kingdom.
However, the poet is said to have rejected the offer, and withdrew to the cave to live out his
years as a hermit.
The expansive cave which spans an area of 5,000 square meters, consists of the upper cave, a
middle cave, a lower cave and the water cave, all interconnected to each other but possessing
distinctive attractions that make it resemble a subterranean palace.
The interior of the upper cave is at all times enveloped in mist, and features many
mysterious stones set against the walls. These resemble animals such as horses and sheep in natural
poses. Stalactites of different colours create sensational reflections in the waters inside the
cave.
The middle cave features huge rocks which resemble a white elephant and blue lion, earning it
the moniker of ‘Lion and Elephant Hall’. In the lower cave, streams rush down the cliff and the
unique stalactites take forms such as lotuses and bananas. Meanwhile the water cave is dark and
mysterious, with the lamps casting illusive reliefs. Every visitor is mesmerized by the splendours
of the Shanjuan Cave.
