Location & Attractions|Hongqiao AirportBefore the construction of the new Pudong Airport in 1999, the Hongqiao was the gateway to Shanghai; it is still one of the busiest airports in the country with about 22 million passengers passing through its gates annually. Currently most of the Airport’s international flights have been terminated and it mostly handles domestic airlines, however flights to Tokyo and Seoul still continue. A large government sponsored expansion drive is in the pipeline for Hongqiao Airport which counts over eighty years in existence as a civilian airport, including construction of a new runway and a passenger terminal. A number of shops can be found in the departure buildings while a food court and a handful of restaurants can be seen in the transit areas. A well equipped business center that caters to the countless business travelers entering Shanghai is also available. |
