People staying in hotels in Beijing who are on the lookout for a good book could do worse than head to the Beijing Book Fair.

Taking place at the International Exhibition Center, the event opened on Sunday January 8th 2012 and will run until January 11th.

In total, 762 different publishing companies will be showcasing their latest publications at the event, with more than 200,000 new books, journals, periodicals and audio works on display.

New electronic publications will also be showcased at the event.

The fair is now into its 25th year and one of the most important things about the fair, according to deputy secretary-general of Publishers Association of China Huang Guorong, is how many underground publishers have now broken into the mainstream.

Beijing could be set to get a lot greener soon, as the city's authority is calling for more green terraces to be created on the rooftops of buildings of 12 storeys or less.
